I am so grateful for the privilege to work with the amazing teachers, staff, and students here at Coral Cliffs PD School. The teachers are dictated to helping each student grow and learn, in a safe environment. When I come to school each day it feels like a home away from home. It’s my hope that students feel the same, when they walk through the doors each day. I recently saw a quote, that I feel describes an important concept about working with children. “Popcorn is prepared in the same pot, in the same heat, in the same oil, and yet . . .the kernels do not pop at the same time. Do not compare your child to others. Their turn to pop is coming.” I believe that my role as a special education teacher is not only to provide the specialized instruction each student needs, but just as importantly cheer them on to succeed as much as possible. To help them recognize themselves as learners. To help them learn to believe in themselves, and recognize that they are capable. I believe it is important to help each student develop a growth mindset, and believe in the power of yet.

Although there is much importance in academics, I believe there to be even greater importance in the overall well being of the students. I truly believe that when the physiological and emotional needs of students are being met first, they will excel to their greatest abilities in all areas. Giving students the time they need throughout the day to make sure those basic needs are being met has helped drastically in the overall well being of the students I have worked with. Allowing kids to have a safe and loving environment to learn can make all the difference in a students life.
